Belated Surprise Party from John for my Birthday

John surprised me on the 10th of January 2011 for my birthday which I totally did not expect. He is such a sneak!! We were to have the Mariachi's for the 31st of January just a week before we leave Mexico for the last time but he wanted it on a Monday after my Birthday. However we are still going to have them on the 31st....John thinks we are made of money....he should of been rich because he love's to show his love by getting me things....he is a great man even if he can't because he does so much for me. (My sister sometimes looks at my blog so this is especially for her. Love your sissy!!!)

It was nice to meet Sister Bednar back in May 2010 when they were both out here in Mexico. Elder Bednar spoke to the young missionaries and we met Sister Bednar in the Temple. They are in the "Comedor" (Cafeteria) that John and I eat in every day that we serve at the Temple...Tuesday through Saturday.

May 3, 2010 we lose three senior missionary's from the Temple. We will miss them very much. Especially the Bluth's which are in our unit. They had a large party for them. We had lots of fun.

This was a different place we went to see the butterflies which was north of Mexico about a two hour ride. It was worth it because we seen more butterflies there than we seen at our frist trip in January. The tree looks like a lot of brown leafs but they were packed with butterflies.

This is our new Presidency at the Mexico Temple. They are very nice and we love serving under their leadership. Also many buses again on Saturday Jan. 30, 2010. The count was 60 and many buses just dropped the people off since there was no room left in the parking lot with all the cars.

January 6, 2010...My Birthday

What a surprise I had from John.....He took me out to lunch with Dr. Brunt and his wife Diane and we bought a few things at a Mexican place that has 50 or 60 shops on a corner square block. We got home and I expected to relax.... when a knock on the door and John opened it and Dr. Brunt brought in two beautiful cakes and then John brought in a big round table and I asked him what was going on. He said a few people were coming over for cake. Many of them spoke Spanish so I asked them to sing me the Mexican Birthday song....and as they were getting ready I heard music and what a surprise John hired the Mariachi's for an hour....what a loving surprise....I had no idea!!! (sorry for the double picture....I don't know how to get it off without taking them all off). I like video but they take so long to do and sometimes I spend so much time trying to upload them that it's not worth it. If you don't see a video on my birthday it's because it canceled itself out.

January 4, 2010 Visit to the Butterflies

We had a fun time visiting the butterflies even though it was cold and we didn't see too many close up. Most of them stayed up in the trees way up high. The little boy named Felix adopted us and stayed with us so we could eat at his moms little restaurant. We all brought our own lunch so we didn't eat there but he was so cute and loving we decided to give him 40 pesos so he could buy a little something for himself.

We decided to to celebrate our New Years Eve with the great people that live in the Zarahemla building which is located on the Temple grounds. They loved my Tacos and we had a good time playing games and watching the fireworks on top of the building, however I didn't get good pictures of that.

It was nice to be pick out to play Mary and John to play Joseph (even though were old) in the Christmas Play. The young Savior was a nice young man from the Ward and other missionaries played other parts. The older Savior was played by Elder Allen.

Well sorry I haven't kept up with our blog........ so I'm updating a few picture's from November. We went to a great restaurant called "Rincon Argentino" which served a great large steaks. We had to bring most it home since it was so large. We had a great time with our Senior Missionary friends November 23, 2009 which was our day off. They don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Mexico and we were scheduled to served at the Temple on Thursday Nov. 26 Thanksgiving Day.

You may recognize Susan Easton Black which is a professor of Church History and has been on the BYU channel speaking on the life of The Prophet Joseph Smith. (John was like a little boy in the candy shop being around her since he loves all History.) Stan Watts is great artist of sculpture. You will have to see more pictures of his work when we get home.

We are sure unhappy about losing our great Presidency of the Temple, they leave the end of October. They have been so good to us. They are spiritual giants and we are thankful these two couples live in Utah so we can visit with them again. I know it looks like were just having fun but as The President say this is a grueling calling because we work long hours and Monday is are day of rest or party or shopping for our food which we end up paying for the following week...tired tired tired but loving the work. :)

We had a ball at the Mexican Independence Day Party with the other Missionary's. Many of us did different dances and songs and lots of good food. I'm the one in the blue purplish dress that comes up in second row that does all the fast movements. Good luck in finding me!!!

Hotel Stay for one night.....

We went to the Embassy Suites for a over night stay since we, and two other missionary couples could not take the noise from the celebration of the "DE Arragon" party in the streets which had 48 six foot high speakers that shook our windows and doors.
We had a great dinner at "Evita Argentinean Restaurant" of Steak, Shrimp and a beautiful salad. For the next morning they had a complementary breakfast of just about everything you could think of to eat.
We also went to an English Speaking Ward that was nice for a change. Since we went in July we counted that evening as our Anniversary.

The next week after John getting out of the Hospital he was given permission to go on our previous planed trip to Puebla. Yeah!!! off on the bus for about two hours one way. Our first stop was at a Pottery plant where they made the clay in large vats and where they baked the pottery, and also we were privilege to see the artist at work painting them....oh their so beautiful and expensive. Next of course our group shot of all other missionary's which included Doctors, (see we were safe, we had a Doctor with us.) Presidents of the CCM (MTC) and the Visitor Center and others plus our group of Temple Missionary's.
Next picture is of the Pyramid court yard where they gather and played their ball games. Next went through a very narrow long tunnel underneath the Pyramids which show the excavation of the Pyramids. (a little claustrophobic) :-(
Next us on the bus with very happy Missionaries singing and laughing all the way. Should of got a picture on the way back home, most of them all sleeping.

John got lots of support from the Missionary's Dr. Elder Brunt and his wife and Dr.Elder Morgan and his wife,also Elder and Sister Shurtz, Elder and Sister Christensen's and the Elder and Sister Gomez not pictured came and visited Sunday and Monday(which are not pictured except for Sister Christensen.) The ones pictured are those that brought soup, salmon rice dinner and jello, fruit. We are so blessed to have such wonderful support and love from them and especially our Heavenly Father. Even though John had to go through pain we really had a great experience throughout this ordeal.
The beautiful flower came from Elder and Sister Gomes....they are so sweet and she is humorous.

To bad Jonathan and Sarah didn't want to join us :) We had fun eating at "Out Back" in Dublin, CA. We didn't have much time with them but the little time we had was a precious moment. So glad my sister joined us because we wound of not had much time together at the reception. Our little nieto (cholo)love's Grandpa!!! So glad that Darla and Jamie came all the way from Kentucky, we loved seeing them. Glad that Albert didn't have a hot date or maybe we would not of seen him. And of course we loved being with Delna and Vince and Asjia and Jalen but we missed Alyssa.

Our welcome home from our good friends and neighbors in our unit. They were so supportive and Sister Christensen had a wonderful homemade soup for us when we arrived home. We are so grateful for the many blessings we felt as we went though this bump in the road. We are back and are ready to roll! (well almost)
Right outside our window is the view we had and where the helicopter took off and just had to have a picture of that. Oh and as you can see he had a pretty nurse to pat him on the back many times to get up flem in his lungs.

John had such excellent care at the "Hospital Angeles Morcel". Doctor Rosas, and the Surgeons, Dr. Musan and Dr. Sanchez (which are pictured on the right, the other two are interns dressed in white) and Nurses were the best. The hospital was immaculate and they help us have a very comfortable stay all six days. John was in pain with his pancreas inflamed and gall bladder was fill with fragments of stones and the nurses were very attentive and loving towards us both. After four days of not eating his fever went down and they were able to operate, and he feels so much better. I told the surgeon Dr. Mussan that my daughter was quite worried about being operated in Mexico and he laughed and said "did she think I would be wearing a sombrero and use knife to operate." He really got a kick out of it and said yes but he understood being in a foreign land and being nervous. (By the way the Doctors all spoke English and were educated also in the U.S.} Dr. Brunt our Dr. and missionary from the U.S. make sure we got to the best hospital and the best surgeons, plus our Stake President (which is also a Doctor as neurologist)here in Mexico was very involved since he knows the surgeons well and takes care of us Missionary's.

We had such a great time with the English speaking missionaries. We had a watermelon seed spitting contest and sang patriotic songs and eat hot dogs and hamburgers. I only eat one meal that day but I'm sure it was three in one setting.

My Uncle Frank Huerta

I believe this is the last picture taken with my Uncle Frank. He passed away July 4, 2009. I have a lot of memories of him and my aunt Pauline with my Dad and Mom. We love him and will miss him but on the other hand we are happy that he is now reunited with his wife, mom and dad and brothers and sister.
I just found this other picture ( I guess I was excited and put the picture in twice and now I don't know how to get one off)in my church manual of me, my sister Virgie and brother Gabe with my Uncle Frank.... I believe it was for his wife Pauline memorial at our cousin Francine's home.

Las Mananitas

To me this was paradise, especially since when we were heading toward the restaurant "Las Mananitas" and it was a bumpy road and very tall walls of cement on both sides of the street {which is common in Mexico not to know whats on the other side)......then they open the gates to this beautiful hotel where we all had lunch. It was an awesome sight of flamingos and peacocks just walking around the beautiful grounds.

Cortez Castle was another place we got to visit and this is a picture of General Zapata, we also seen a picture of Pancho Villa, but didn't get a picture of him. He may be a relative of mine? Shopping is always fun and we did and are still doing that when we visit different places like Taxco, which is famous for it's silver. Then to the caves in Las Grutas and watched fearfully as John and others went over a ravine on a steel cable to get to the beautiful caves.

We have been so busy starting with Jonathan and Sarah wedding day that we had the privileged to attend on June 5th. How special it was to see them get married in the Temple for time and all eternity. (a few favorite picture shared above)

John I were very touch to have such wonderful Ward members surprise us with the collection of money to cover the cost of of flight to be there and return back to Mexico. Their are no words to express our appreciation and love we have felt from the Hayward 1st Ward. They have always supported us in every way and we miss and love them dearly. We were so happy to speak to those that we were able to speak with briefly. We were so sorry we didn't have a chance to speak to everyone. We left for our flight immediately after their reception only to have a nightmare of experience with the airlines including missed flights due to the airline changing the flight times only to set us up with another that was missed also and having to stay over night in L.A. and then having to get up at 3 a.m. to make the flight at 7:30 a.m. Then when we did arrive finally in Mexico we found that our luggage did not arrive and we had to walk and ride trains to different terminals only to find it was not there. Finally we talk to someone that said they would find it and have it taken to the Visitor Center next to our Temple in Mexico. Amazingly I was calm though out the whole ordeal until the end of all the frustration I almost lost it but thank goodness I held back the tears. Anyway all things worked out and we did finally get our luggage and now that I look back on it....it seems like such a small inconvenience after we experience such a blessing as to be at the wedding. Again, thank you so much for all your support.
We also already had plans when we returned to Mexico to see some of the beautiful sighs of Mexico with our Missionary friends. So later I will have those pictures up on our Blog that was taken from a friend since I didn't have my camera.

Those muskets look harmless but you better cover your ears because the noise sounds like a cannon. They were celebrating the "cinco de mayo" all week long since Mother Day until 11:30 p.m. Apparently they could not celebrate on the 5th because the government closed all large gatherings due to the "Swine Flue."

OK well its hard to keep up with my Blog since time is scarce. But I think this is the last picture we took of how we looked at Church last week. We were met with sanitizer and a mask to put on.
A senior missionary sister that lives in our unit was assigned to speak in Sacrament meeting and had to wear her mask which kept falling off her nose so she kept pulling it back up. She is a very beautiful red head and she did a marvelous job speaking Spanish. Today we only were met with the sanitizer for our hands, and I'm so thankful for that blessing.

Well this is what we look like lately since the President of the Temple said we need to use are mask and not to shop if we can help it. Also we need to wash our hands before and after using the "bano" The Temple is closed but we are still receiving instruction..... that is us Missionaries only. Well at least were doing something rather than just sitting around in our apartment. I hope they contain it soon since I hear it is showing up in different parts of the world. We feel good but it is very hot outside, so thank goodness we are inside an air conditioned Temple. We love our mission and pray we can get back to work and serve the people of Mexico.
Oh by the way the other masked Mexican were holding is "Flat Stanley" from our dear little Kennedy Magalhaes.
My sister sent me this message today May 20, 2009 about flat Stanly below:
"Donny and the kids were here and they were very excited Flat Stanley made it back yesterday the 19th, and the teacher as well as the kids were hysterical to see Flat Stanley with the mask, that was just a hit!!!! that is all they talked about."

This sister Molett reminds me of my mother not so much in looks but her grace and mannerism. She is an elegant women and we work together in the Temple. She was over to demonstrate skin products for one of my neighbors that speaks mostly English so we had fun listening to her explain her unbelievable product. We also got a treat as she danced for us. Just like my mom selling herself and making money from her example of beauty. My mom always took great care of herself and I miss her very much. I can't believe it's approaching a year now that she's been gone.

I had to show you all who Our Darla was named after. It started like this.....I was pregnant many years ago and Deanna was a little girl at the time when she said
" since we are thinking about "D" names why don't we call our next baby "Darla" if it's a girl." Well I really liked the name so when she was born we called her Darla. Now I got thinking that Deanna must of had a special reason why she liked that name so I asked her how she came up with that name and she said "it's on the "Little Rascals." I was a little floored since I thought maybe she had a special friend at school or something like that. Well anyway I'm glad we named her Darla because she fits the name. She has always been beautiful and elegant just like the little actress Darla on the TV.

Feliz Cumpleanos a Presidente Pagaza

Each week John buys me flowers from the man that sells them at the corner where we live. We just bring over my vase and I choose the ones I want and he cuts them and fits them in for me. John loves roses so maybe I'll choose them next week.

We had to go immigration on Wednesday to get finger printed. We also went to Costco and Johns says "It cost and we go." We spend less money this this time then we did the first time we went there :) John knows I love flowers and he let me pick these beautiful Lily's and insisted I also get the Orchid.
We have had a beautiful week at the Temple and being with our friends. We love studying with them and have had a great Sunday all day.

Pdte. Juan y Celia Becerra

President and Sister Becerra are one of the Counselors to President Roueche and they spoke at the re-dedication of the Mexico City, Mexico Temple on November 16, 2008 which we were privilege to see at our Stake Center in California. They are both very very sweet. When Sister Becerra gives us instruction in the Temple she does it with such love that the Spirit just radiates on her continence.

John has had the blessing of cutting their hair among others and they are all so grateful. I'm so thankful for his example of service. He has always been so willing to help others here and in California. I'm so thankful to be married to such a great man.

Each Sunday after our block of Spanish meetings we meet with other missionary's to discuss the Sunday School lesson or in this case the Stake Conference talks. This is all done in English for the benefit of those that are not fluent in Spanish yet.

Every other week we have FHE with the English speaking Senor Missionaries and the other two weeks is with just those that live in our little community.

March 8, 2009 Sunday right after Church

Our missionary friends from left from right Sister Louiene Wright, Sister Bonnie Shurtz, Sister Chyleen Bluth, Sister Linda Monte, Sister Lynne Isom, Sister Annette Christensen, and Sister Rhona Legg. Now the Elders, Elder Monte, Elder Bluth, Elder Legg, Elder Shurtz, Elder Wright, and Elder Isom. Elder Christensen was missing but I will include a picture of him when they were at our home looking at my blog. We all attend the Spanish speaking Ward and love being with the Saints even if some of us don't understand every word. The members testimonies are so strong and they are very knowledgeable in the gospel.

March 7, 2009 Saturday....Wow all the buses!!!!

What a wonderful day at the Temple.......there were 40 buses (16 Stakes) on the Temple grounds. So many members had to wait at least 45 minutes before they had room to let them in. We were very busy and trilled to have them come for a Spiritual feast. They are so humble and loving that you can't help in shedding tears with them.

March 3, 2009..... John goes back to Costco

After working at the Temple early shift, John took the same Taxi back to Costco to get his exercise "elliptical" and one of the the Missionary's Elder Isom came right over without John asking and helped him put it together. I'm telling you we have the best neighbors.

What an experience going shopping at "Costco" in a compact car which was a private taxi which a member of our Church owns. He took us there and waited almost two hours for us while both of us couples bought two baskets full of food and other miscellaneous items. We were packed with grocery's in the trunk and we all had grocery's up to our nose and at our feet and as much as we could fit behind our head. I was sitting in the middle of John and Chyleen Bluth (another Temple Missionary) and her husband was in the front seat with the Taxi driver. Well it didn't last long when I felt suffocated and I stared to push the grocery's away from me and they had to stop the taxi and let me out. They put me in the front seat with the window open then I felt better but my legs were asleep which wasn't a big deal in respect to being in that back seat. Never again....I would rather take our own taxi back home even it cost us more $$$. After it was all over we laughed a lot and thought it was pretty funny because we look like a bunch of clowns in that taxi and even the taxi driver had to gallon behind his legs which before he got back in I removed them and squeezed them on top of my stuff since we didn't need a wreck on top of it all. The picture taken in the back seat was taken after John stuff was already taken off of him.

Also thank you Virgie for the lovely angel with her shell which makes me think of you often and it is as if I can hear your voice through the shell:) I also love the the journal sweet Kennedy made for us. I write in it as often as I have time all the special feeling I been having in Mexico City. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Kennedy:)

This is the couple that is over all the Temple Missionaries. He is the Temple President and she's the Matron. They are so easy to work with, and we really love them. In this picture the made a visit to us at our home in Mexico to make sure we were doing OK and Sister Roueche brought me a beautiful knitted wash cloth that she made for me in my favored color light green.

Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon

These Pyramids are just north of Mexico City. We climbed to the very top of the largest one which is the Pyramid of the Sun and it was beautiful. Also I believe the video is called "Death in the air" or something like that.

On February 20th we arrived in Mexico City just in time to go shopping with our Temple President and Matron, they also pick us up from the Airport. I will include a picture of them later.

February 21st we were set apart then worked at the Temple for a short time since we were invited to go the the Folklore Dance with the other Senior couple missionaries.
We had such a wonderful time and the dancers seem professional as you will see in our video. It was hard to believe they were just High School students. To see the video just click the arrow at the bottom of the above picture.

One of the six other couples we learned with at the Temple Missionary Training at the Provo Utah Temple which was taught by Elder Rex D. Pinegar and his wife Sister Bonnie Pinegar. We have been in this group since Monday February 16 and we finish on the Thursday February 19, 2009.

We had a good time in Utah except for the "migraine" I suffered. Here are a few pictures which I took with my camera but I have more that I would like to add that I took with my blackberry but I need Jonathan to upload for me some day.
Visit with the Vick's............. John loved the Vick's fireplace and we had a great lunch with the Vick's and Leslie before heading out to the airport. MTC lesson with our tutors Carlos and Kattie. It was so nice to meet them since we usually do the lessons from home on the telephone.
